WELCOME TO Makers Woodshop

INNOVATIVE IDEAS
STYLISH DESIGNS

I still remember the day I cut open a fallen log in a client’s backyard. Sunlight struck the newly exposed grain, and for a second, I forgot all about remodeling kitchens or laying tile. All I saw were the rings—one for every year that tree had stood sentry—a secret timeline waiting to be transformed.

Back then, I ran a small residential remodeling business. Good work, steady clients. But something about that log—about turning something old into something brand new—captivated me. I spent evenings researching woodworking techniques, experimenting with how epoxy heats and swirls, and soon discovered the thrill of creating functional pieces that told a story all their own.

In 2020 I (jason) teamed up with Jonathan (the photo to the left) who at the time was supplying me with all of the wood I was using to make the tables. We leased a few acres from Edrich Lumber, and put together the shop and the mill space.

Today at Makers Woodshop, we salvage Maryland’s oldest trees and transform them into tables and bars that stand guardian over a new generation of memories. We love the process, we love the finish, and we love passing that wonder on to you.

Our furniture manufacturing is unique since our process is completely inhouse.

Not many woodshops cut and dry their own product. You have heard of farm to table, well, we are “Log to Table”. We take fallen and dead trees from all around Maryland, the larger the better and we repurpose them for a new life inside of someone’s home or business. We can cut logs up to 8′ wide and 45′ long and make some of the most amazing furniture you have ever seen in your life

The process takes about a year from a tree that is brought into our yard, cut into slabs, “stickered”, (the process of enabling airflow between the pieces of wood as it air drys) letting it air dry for up to a year, then putting it into the kiln to finish the drying process, the final step there can take up to two months.

Once the slabs are dry, we flatten the on our surfacer, which is basically a huge router made for the purpose, then they come into the shop, ready for the next project. It takes generally 4-6 weeks for us to turn the raw material into a specific piece of furniture. Although some processes can take longer than that.

WHY CHOOSE US

Elm live edge table - Makers Woodshop

Beauty

In many ways the job of the shop is to let the wood speak for itself. We are less about intricate craftsmanship and more about providing a platform that exhibits the wood’s true beauty.

Dependablity

We are not a shop that promises and doesn’t deliver. If we give you a timeline, you can rest assured your piece will be done before the party, or event/holiday you need it for.

One of a kind

In a world of Ikea, and mass produced items it isn’t often that you get to own something that is whole and truly yours. You get to own something that stands alone.

Nice looking tree don't you think?
