Terms of Service

Effective Date: October 14, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms“) apply to your use of makerswoodshop.com and to every quote, order and purchase from Makers Woodshop (“Makers Woodshop,” “we,” “us,” or “our“). By using this website, requesting a quote or placing an order, you agree to these Terms. Please also read our Privacy Policy.

1) Custom, Made-to-Order Work

Nearly everything we sell is built to order in our Maryland shop to the species, size, edge, finish, base and engraving you choose. Photos, drawings, renderings and online previews show the style of a piece; your piece is made from different boards and will not be identical.

2) Natural Wood

Wood is a natural material. Variations in grain, color, figure, knots, mineral streaks and sapwood are part of its character, not defects. Wood expands and contracts with humidity and its color changes with age and light. Small seasonal movement is normal. Keep furniture away from direct heat sources and extreme humidity swings.

3) Quotes and Pricing

  • Online calculator prices and written quotes are estimates for the build described and are valid for 30 days unless stated otherwise.
  • Prices are in U.S. dollars. Maryland sales tax (currently 6%) is added where required.
  • If you change the design after ordering, we will confirm any price or schedule change with you before continuing.
  • We may correct obvious pricing or typographical errors. If a correction changes your price, you may cancel for a full refund.

4) Deposits and Payment

  • A 50% deposit of the total (including tax) is required to place an order and reserve a production slot.
  • The remaining balance is due before delivery, shipment or pickup.
  • Payment is made through our secure invoice link. We do not store card numbers on this website.
  • Ownership passes to you when the balance is paid in full.

5) Lead Times and Rush Orders

Typical production time is about 6 weeks from deposit and final design approval. Lead times are estimates and can change with material availability, finish curing time, weather and shop volume; we will keep you updated if your date moves. Rush production, when available, carries a 20% surcharge on the table, base and finish and shortens the schedule but cannot guarantee a specific date.

6) Cancellations

You may cancel for a full refund of your deposit until production starts (when we begin milling or building your piece), less the cost of any items already purchased specifically for your order, such as a steel base. Once production has started, the deposit is non-refundable because the piece is made to your specifications.

7) Laser Engraving and Customer Artwork

  • Engraving is placed using the size and position you set in the order form or approve in a layout proof. Please check spelling, dates and placement carefully; engraving cannot be removed once done.
  • Engraving is limited to a 36″ x 36″ area and must fit within the tabletop.
  • Small details, thin lines and low-resolution images may be simplified. We will contact you if your artwork needs changes before engraving.
  • By sending us text, logos, photos or artwork, you confirm you own them or have permission to use them, and you allow us to use them only to make your order. We may decline any artwork that infringes someone else’s rights or that we consider offensive.
  • We do not reuse your artwork for other customers. We may photograph finished work for our portfolio; tell us if you prefer we do not show yours.

8) Delivery, Freight and Pickup

  • Pickup: free from our shop by appointment.
  • Local delivery (Baltimore and surrounding area): $350, including carrying the piece into your home.
  • Nationwide freight (contiguous 48 states): $450 flat, curbside delivery. Inside delivery, stairs, remote areas or liftgate requirements may cost extra and will be quoted first.
  • Delivery dates are estimates. Please make sure the piece will fit through doors, stairways and elevators; we are not responsible for access problems.
  • Inspect your order on delivery and note any visible damage on the delivery receipt.

9) Returns, Damage and Defects

Because every piece is custom made, we do not accept returns or exchanges for change of mind, color or grain preference, or sizing chosen by the customer. If your order arrives damaged or has a defect in materials or workmanship, contact us within 14 days of delivery with photos. We will repair it, replace it or refund it, at our option.

10) Limited Warranty

We warrant our furniture against defects in workmanship (such as joint or glue-line failure and finish failure) for 1 year from delivery to the original purchaser. During that time we will repair or replace the affected piece or part, at our option. This warranty does not cover natural wood movement, color change, normal wear, heat, water or chemical damage, misuse, improper care, modifications or repairs by others, or products made by other manufacturers (those carry their own warranty). Customer-supplied legs or materials are not covered. Except as stated here and to the extent permitted by law, products are provided without other warranties, express or implied.

11) Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Makers Woodshop is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim related to an order will not exceed the amount you paid for that order. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have that cannot be limited under applicable law.

12) Website Use

All content on this website, including photos, text, designs and logos, belongs to Makers Woodshop or its licensors and may not be copied or reused without permission. You agree not to misuse the website, interfere with its operation or submit false orders. Links to other websites are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for their content.

13) Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Maryland, unless the law requires otherwise. We will always try to resolve problems directly first, so please contact us.

14) Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The Effective Date at the top shows when they were last revised. The Terms in effect when you placed your order apply to that order.
